Is the IntelTechniques Search Tool still available, and is it free?
Yes, as of 10 October 2026 the IntelTechniques Search Tool is online and free to use. Its page at inteltechniques.com/tools/ is marked "Updated: August 15, 2026" and says the tools were "created as a supplement to the book OSINT Techniques, 11th Edition by Michael Bazzell and Jason Edison." The same page describes them as "this free tool" and asks visitors to buy the book to support updates IntelTechniques Search Tools page, "Updated: August 15, 2026" (checked 10 Oct 2026).
There are really two IntelTechniques tool sets. The online tools are a free web page with sidebar categories from Search Engines and Email Addresses to Telephone Numbers, Vehicles and Breaches & Leaks. The offline custom search tools come with the book: the book page says "All purchases include free download of updated custom search tools" and lists the PDF at $40 IntelTechniques: OSINT Techniques book page (checked 10 Oct 2026).
People usually look for an alternative when they want a page that works well on a phone, when a particular IntelTechniques query has stopped working (the tools page itself warns that "some tools are currently non-functional"), or when they want one place that chains a lookup into the next. The free Max Intel options below cover most of the same categories: the OSINT Pivot Hub, People Search, Username Search, Email OSINT, Phone Lookup and the Google Dork Generator. Max Intel is not affiliated with IntelTechniques.
What is the IntelTechniques Search Tool?
The IntelTechniques Search Tool is a set of web forms. You type a selector, such as an email address, username or phone number, and each button builds a query for a specific outside service and opens it. According to the tools page, "The queries are generated and executed within your own browser" and "We do not see, collect, or store the information you search within these tools" (IntelTechniques' own statement) IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026).
The sidebar on that page lists these categories: Search Engines, Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, Communities, Email Addresses, Usernames, Names, Addresses, Telephone Numbers, Maps, Documents, Pastes, Images, Videos, Domains, IP Addresses, Business & Government, Vehicles, Virtual Currencies, Breaches & Leaks, Live Audio Streams, Live Video Streams, APIs.
The page also gives four usage notes, quoted or paraphrased here from IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026):
- Several tools need you to allow pop-ups for inteltechniques.com, especially the "Submit All" buttons.
- The site is designed for a high-resolution monitor and may be difficult to use on mobile devices.
- "Some tools are currently non-functional." They stay listed because many services come back after a short break.
- The tools are provided "as is", without warranty.
The most recent change we could find is a blog post titled "OSINT Tools Update", dated 08/14/2026 in the blog index. It says the online tools "now allow automated query of an X (Twitter) username across XCancel", without being logged into an X account IntelTechniques blog: "OSINT Tools Update", listed 08/14/2026.

A short, sourced history. In June 2019, IntelTechniques' podcast notes said: "This week I discuss the attacks toward the site which forced removal of the online OSINT tools" IntelTechniques blog: Privacy, Security & OSINT Show Episode 125 notes, 7 Jun 2019. The book page for the 11th edition says "There will be no more need for online search tools; we will make and host our own locally" IntelTechniques: OSINT Techniques book page (checked 10 Oct 2026). Today the online page is live again and was updated in August 2026 IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026). We could not find an official page that dates the return of the online tools, so we do not give one.
Why do people look for an IntelTechniques Search Tool alternative?
The reasons below come from IntelTechniques' own notes, not from complaints we collected:
- Some queries break. Outside services change their URLs or close public search. The tools page says plainly that some tools are non-functional at any given time IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026). Checking a second tool set is normal practice.
- Pop-ups and small screens. "Submit All" opens many tabs and needs pop-up permission, and the page is built for a large monitor IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026).
- The offline set comes with the book. If you want the downloadable tools, you buy the book IntelTechniques: OSINT Techniques book page (checked 10 Oct 2026). That is a fair price for many investigators, but some people want a free option first.
- The 2019 removal. In June 2019 IntelTechniques said attacks on the site forced removal of the online tools IntelTechniques blog: Privacy, Security & OSINT Show Episode 125 notes, 7 Jun 2019. If you depend on one free tool set, it helps to know a second one.

When is the IntelTechniques Search Tool the better choice?
In several cases, we would point you to IntelTechniques first:
- You are working through the book or OSIP training. IntelTechniques built the tools as a supplement to the OSINT Techniques book IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026), so they follow the book's methods.
- You need to work offline or self-host. The book's offline tools and Debian OSINT virtual machine let you run queries from your own machine IntelTechniques: OSINT Techniques book page (checked 10 Oct 2026). Max Intel has no offline package.
- You need categories Max Intel lacks. IntelTechniques lists Live Audio Streams and Live Video Streams IntelTechniques tools page (checked 10 Oct 2026). Max Intel has no equivalent page.
- X (Twitter) history. The August 2026 update added automated X username queries through XCancel, with filtering by year IntelTechniques blog: "OSINT Tools Update", listed 08/14/2026.
Many investigators keep both open. When one tool's query for a service breaks, the other may still work.
Is it legal to use these search tools?
Running a search on public pages is generally lawful. What you do with the results is where the risk lies: using login-only data, breaking a site's terms, processing personal data under GDPR, or making screening decisions. Read Is OSINT legal? before you start a case, and keep notes on where each finding came from.
Not for screening decisions. Do not use people-search, phone or email results from any of these tools to decide on employment, housing, credit or insurance. In the US that use is governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and free lookup tools are not consumer reporting agencies. See the FCRA section of our legal guide.
Search yourself first. It is the fastest way to learn what these tools reveal, and our people-search removal guide explains how to take listings down.
